The je stones were made of slate and were usually flattened or olongated egg oval shape. They were black, green or dark green in color. The stones were imported from the Jalemo people who live northeast of the Balim Valley. The je stones were used in ceremonial ppayments, in funerals and as a currency for important commercial activities as well as bride price. They were used by the Dani tribe who thought the stones had magic power and regularly passed them from owner to owner calling them exchange stones. 19 inches by 5 inches.
