The Village of Kandangei on the Sepik River used this shell belt as money. The shells are 1/2 to 1 1/2 in diameter attached end on end to a 3 woven belt. It was highly valued and used as money. In 1973 when I was in the Village of Kandangei, the natives had these belts and said they were money. The belt is very rare and very old I obtained it at that time.
